I moved into a cabin that had a undoubtedly bold style plus I looked it up, then it is a southwest style that was in my home.

I genuinely didn’t like it.

It was all desert style plus bright colors. There were a lot of browns, golds, reds, plus tans. I thought it was kind of like an ancient west theme plus was tacky, but so several people cherish the southwest style of home. They even have a variation called southwest sparkler. That wasn’t for me at all. I talked to an interior designer once I got comfortable in my home. I wanted to change the apartment as best as I could. I didn’t want those colors, fabrics, plus the theme splashed in the home. I wanted it modern, classic, plus clean… When you have so several wood tones, brown furniture, plus tan carpets, you are a bit limited. I couldn’t have gone from a southwest sparkler dining room to a glamor dining room. I was able to do a transitional style though. This is where you take the classic look plus make it a bit funky. I was able to leave the wood plus some warm tones while adding in splashes of grays plus blacks. Thank goodness the interior designer was the one coming up with where to add what. I would have made a mess of colors plus patterns, then fighting the apartment theme is next to impossible, but now the cabin is a lot better, but anytime I replace a space, I detach the wood plus change it to metal! Eventually my transitional style is going to be a traditional style.

I’ve never been a fan of winter.

And I’m not even really from around here.

Where I grew up, there was some winter weather but it was nothing like what I experience these days. My parents had a great house that I was lucky enough to grow up in. Our heating method was a wood stove primarily. However, that’s because my dad preferred it and we lived on a lot of acreage with plenty of available firewood. But we also had a heat pump that provided heating on the days that weren’t all that cold. And our neighbors all had heat pumps as well. It could get cold but nothing like what I’m dealing with now. Yet this year, we are doing so much better thanks to me finally tracking down a heating thief. Since we’ve been up here and in this house, I’ve not been completely committed to winter prep on the house. Of course, each fall I call the HVAC company to set the appointment for the heating maintenance. That’s something that I’ve always done as it just makes good sense. But as far as the house was concerned, I was sort of hit and miss. But this year, I really took winter preparation on the house a lot more seriously. I even went so far as to get a thermal gun in order to find the source of a big heating leak in our home. This instant read temperature gun allowed me to see just where the heat was pouring out of the house. I was surprised to find so many small leaks. But I finally found the really big one and was able to seal that up for good. Having a tighter house has made the winter in our home so much more comfortable.

I try to get out of the central air conditioning of my home and out to our spot in the woods at least a couple times a month.

And since it’s fairly close, I sometimes just go for day trips. But if somebody will go with me, I am always up for making a weekend of it. That’s the rub though. Getting my family out of the residential HVAC of the house is tough. They simply don’t like the idea of roughing it one bit. And that goes double when there is no quality heating and air coming from some HVAC equipment. Over the last few years, I could count on one hand the times that any member of my family wanted to go up to the lodge. It’s hard for me to understand given how beautiful it is there. In the summertime, there is a freshwater lake that is just absolutely beautiful. And all year long there are miles and miles of trails for hiking and taking in all that vast beauty. Still, I was the only one that was willing to leave the central air conditioning of home to enjoy it. As the kids are getting older, I really wanted to change how they perceived the lodge. So I had the HVAC company come out and install three ductless heat pumps to provide residential HVAC. Then I got about sprucing the place up with fresh paint, new furnishings and comfortable beds. I sort of had an unveiling this past fall and my family just was wild about the upgrades. I also enjoyed having that ductless heat pumps for some heating before I get the stove lit when I first arrive to the cabin during the winter.
